A Work of Art - Roy Orbison

From a visual showpiece we created for the entrance way in the Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley restaurant Rock and Brews in Plantation, Florida, we are taking the next step towards a true masterpiece for the Wink High School Alumni Association in Wink, Texas, 

the home of Roy Orbison. 

This exciting project aims to encapsulate the spirit and legacy of the school and its notable alumni while honoring the rich musical heritage of the town. The focus was on creating a jukebox that not only serves as a tribute but also as a source of inspiration for current and future students. This final step in our artistic journey is set to be a celebration of community and creativity, capturing the essence of Wink, Texas, and its storied past.

 After 60 years at various locations and 98,898 plays, it has accumulated a lot of dirt. The first step is to begin tearing down all the parts and reducing her to a bare cabinet. This meticulous process requires patience and attention to detail, ensuring that each component is carefully removed and cleaned. The journey back to its original state is both an art and a science, as each piece is evaluated for restoration or replacement. The goal is to preserve its history while reviving its former glory, creating a refreshed yet authentic experience for all who encounter it in the future. 

Taking an extra step or two elevates the jukebox to a whole new level. With Wink High School's vibrant colors of Orange, Black, and White, the potential for an electrifying paint job is undeniable. Imagine the keyboard and front grill powder-coated in Orange and Black, while the interior parts stand out against a pristine white cabinet. 

The transformation becomes immediately apparent.

The addition of chrome further enhances the effect. Every piece is meticulously cleaned and polished to perfection. The unexpected discovery of chrome stars from a 1965 Wurlitzer adds the perfect finishing touch, pushing the design to its pinnacle.

With each component carefully examined, the meticulous task of assembly continues. Every nut and screw must be perfectly aligned, ensuring that each piece fits seamlessly into the intricate puzzle. It's a demanding task, requiring patience and precision, as overlooking even the smallest detail necessitates retracing steps to correct any misalignment. With a perfectionist's touch, I layer fresh veneer skins over the wood, gradually transforming the project with each deliberate move. Slowly but surely, the structure begins to reveal itself, taking shape in a harmonious blend of craftsmanship and dedication. 

Incorporating a Roy Orbison autobiography, his albums, and a photograph of his original band performing at Wink High School, under plexiglass, adds a unique and personalized touch. The meticulous attention given to the logistics of wiring the amplifier, which enables Bluetooth connectivity, is truly commendable. The seamless integration of the record player, capable of playing both classic albums and 45s, along with the addition of custom title strips from various music genres, branded Wink High School logos and vibrant 45 sleeves, 

creates a cohesive and harmonious setup.
